Perfect for a family dinner, braai, or weekend treat.
Equipment
- Mixing bowl

- Spatula or tongs
- Knife and chopping board
- Plate for resting burgers
Ingredients
- 500 g beef mince (80% lean, 20% fat for juiciness)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, for flavor)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for frying/grilling)
Instructions
- Prepare the PattiesIn a mixing bowl, combine the beef mince, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.Mix gently with your hands — do not overmix or the burgers will become tough.Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into round patties about 2 cm thick.Press a small indent in the center of each patty with your thumb (this helps them cook evenly and not puff up).
- Cook the PattiesHeat your pan or grill to medium-high and brush lightly with oil or butter.Place the patties on the hot surface and cook for about 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness.Add cheese slices on top of each patty during the last 30 seconds of cooking to let them melt.Remove the patties and let them rest on a plate for 2–3 minutes.
- Assemble the BurgerLightly toast your burger buns in the pan or on the grill for extra flavor.Spread sauces of your choice on the bottom bun.Add lettuce, tomato, the beef patty with melted cheese, onion, and pickles.Top with the upper bun, press gently, and serve immediately.
