The Ultimate Selection for Slow-Cooked Comfort

Gather around the fire and create the ultimate South African classic with our Premium Mutton Potjie Cuts. This traditional, masterfully selected mix brings together the finest bone-in cuts—including rich shank, gelatinous knuckle, and deeply flavorful neck. Together, they create a beautifully balanced blend of meat, bone marrow, and healthy fats that are custom-made for the iron pot.

True to our range, this mature mutton delivers a distinctly deeper, richer flavor profile than standard lamb. Because our animals are free-roaming and mature naturally, the meat develops a complex, savory character. This robust flavor profile won’t fade or wash out during longer cooking times; instead, it deepens, infusing your entire pot with an incredible, hearty richness.

Why You’ll Love It:

Deeper, Complex Flavor: Provides a much richer, more robust base than ordinary lamb stewing meat.
The Perfect Mix: A curated blend of shank, knuckle, and neck ensures a variety of textures and rich bone marrow for the ultimate sauce thickness.
100% Free-Range: Sustainably sourced from free-roaming herds and raised entirely free of added hormones.

Craft the ultimate slow-cooked meal with our free-range mutton potjie cuts. A rich mix of shank, knuckle, and neck that delivers a deeper flavor than lamb.

Cooking Inspiration:

These cuts feature dense muscle and connective tissue that require slow cooking over several hours to break down into melt-in-your-mouth perfection:

The Ultimate Potjiekos: Layer these cuts at the bottom of a cast-iron pot with red wine, stock, and root vegetables. Let it simmer gently over low coals without stirring, allowing the meat to become incredibly tender and slide effortlessly off the bone.
Hearty Winter Stews: Slow-cook on the stove or in the oven for a traditional tomato bredie or green bean stew that tastes even better the next day.
Aromatic Curries: The robust depth of this mutton stands up beautifully to heavy spices, making it the premier choice for a slow-simmered, traditional Durban mutton curry.
