Zuney Wagyu Beef was founded by Denys Wells and Henk Klopper in 2014. As passionate beef producers from the Zuney Valley in the Eastern Cape, it is our mission to breed top quality Wagyu cattle. We use the Angus breed to crossbreed purebred Wagyu which supports our full- blood programme for genetic advancement in the herd.
The 2250 hectare farms offer good conditions for the cattle with its rich pasture, natural grass, thornveld, valley bushveld and natural forest. Zuney Wagyu is built on ethical and environmentally sustainable practices that ensure a quality product to clients and consumers. The wellbeing of Zuney Wagyu’s cattle is non-negotiable. At Zuney Wagyu we invest our energy, passion, and patience in creating this high-value product for our customers. Nurturing cattle is not our job, it’s our passion and way of life.
To breed top-quality Wagyu cattle is part of Zuney Wagyu’s mission statement. After five years in the Wagyu industry, this remains an ongoing process which is rooted in good genetics combined with efficient feeding. Our main focus is to maintain the standards set by the Wagyu Society of South Africa (WSA) and to fulfil the Certified South African Wagyu Beef (CWB) programme, as well as international best practices on cattle breeding. As part of our CWB Certification, we ensure quality Wagyu products and integrity to the customer. As per the guidelines set out for the CWB Programme, the minimum marbling score is 3. We are proud of our marbling score that ranges from 4 to 7. At the moment the bulk of our harvesting is classified as F1 as well as F2.
